CANTON- As each coach talked at the podium about their team during OAC Media Day on Thursday, Dean Paul listened.

He scribbled down notes on his welcome packet, detailing personnel changes and tidbits that he thought could be beneficial to remember.

And a lot has changed this season in the OAC -- there are three new head coaches, several new rules, and Mount Union isn’t the defending champ for the first time in a quarter century.

Last year was a historic one for the OAC.

Mount Union, the winner of 24 straight OAC titles, was dethroned by their rivals from University Heights.

John Carroll quarterback Anthony Moeglin threw a 24-yard touchdown pass with 39 seconds remaining to stun the Purple Raiders on their home turf. The Blue Streaks beat Mount Union by three and were OAC champions for the first time since 1989.

King Horn weight room receives substantial upgrade

For the first time since 2003, the King Horn Sports Center weight room has new equipment.

The ONU athletic department gave the old equipment to Diamond Sports in exchange for a credit, which they used to buy a completely new set from Legend Fitness. ONU athletic director Tom Simmons said that the university helped with the capital request for the equipment.

There Emily Richards stood -- under the California sun, in lane two, at approximately 2:06 p.m. Pacific Time last Sunday.

And here came the camera.

Moving from lane eight to lane one, NBC’s cameraman spent a brief moment on each runner as they were introduced before the start of the race.

Meticulous time and preparation are what got Richards to this point, just seconds away from competing in the biggest race of her life, the 800-meter final at the U.S. Track & Field Outdoor Championships.

Yet she was, in no way, prepared for this.
