This semester, one Ohio Northern athlete each week will be featured as the Northern Review ‘Athlete of the Week.’ Sports editor Grant Pepper will talk to each athlete briefly about what they do in their sport as well as in the classroom, and the videos will be posted here and on the Northern Review’s Twitter page: @NorthernOnLine.

This week, the first ever Northern Review ‘Athlete of the Week’ is junior distance runner Ian McVey. McVey earned All-America honors in cross country this fall, as he finished 10th in the NCAA Div. III Cross Country Championships. He won the OAC Championship and Great Lakes Regional meets, and was named both the OAC Men’s Runner of the Year (for the second straight year) and the Great Lakes Region Male Runner of the Year for his efforts.

On the track, McVey is coming off of a productive sophomore season last spring, when he placed second in both the 1,000-meter and 3,000-meter races at the men’s indoor OAC Championship meet. He was also a member of the OAC champion outdoor 4x800-meter relay team.

McVey (a mechanical engineering major from Stow, OH) talked about the perks of distance running, what he eats the night before a race, and more:
