ONU seeks re-accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission

Every ten years since 1958, the Higher Learning Commission has been visiting ONU to check up on the University’s progress. The progress made by both the pharmacy and engineering programs, more specifically. February 2015 marks ten years since the HLC was last in Ada during the 2004-2005 school year. Representatives will be visiting the campus next week for three days, from February 23-25.

ONU Symphony Orchestra to perform a night of "Pipes, Dances, and Drums"

The ONU Symphony Orchestra presents a night of "Pipes, Dances, and Drums" on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. inside the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $5 for all ONU students and can be purchased at the Freed Center's box office. 

Sodexo cruelty campaign

The Human League has launched a campaign to kick Sodexo off of college campuses due to their use of battery-cage chicken farm eggs.

Sodexo has provided dining services at ONU since June 5, 1978. They operate the McIntosh Center dining hall, White Bear Inn, Northern on Main and some catering on campus.  Sodexo has also been involved with the Physical Plant since July 1, 2006. These facilities employ many local residents in the community around ONU. 

Musicians from across the globe visit ONU

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Ohio Northern University Department of Music welcomed two professional musicians for a free recital concert. The recital was a great way for music students to learn from professional musicians.

This week, we sat down with Lucas Pennington, who is a senior forward on the men's basketball team. Pennington is one of the greatest free throw shooters in ONU history, shooting 92 percent from the stripe. He averages 11 points and four rebounds per game for the Polar Bears, has a crush on Jennifer Aniston and enjoys 90's alternative music.

Heilbronner finds a new calling

Brian Heilbronner is taking his senior year to compete in a different way. The former six-time OAC champion swimmer is the head coach of the Ada High School swim team. His team is led by two senior captains: Mitchell Wilcox, who is vying for his fourth state tournament appearance in four years, and Aaron Spar, a swimmer with Down Syndrome who is in his final season as a Bulldog. This is his team, and this is his story.

Woodrow Wilson visiting fellow Janisse Ray held a writing workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in McIntosh. Titled Mouth of the Great River: Step-by-Step Workshop for Writing Stories of Your Place, the workshop consisted of hands-on writing exercises, Q&As, and informative tips that can be beneficial and useful to anyone interested in improving their writing. 

Brian Williams a scapegoat, just the tip of bad news in internet age

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has been associated with a controversy this past week for incorrectly claiming he rode on a helicopter that came under enemy fire when he was reporting as a news correspondent in Iraq in 2003.

International Play Festival

The Ohio Northern University's Department of Theatre Arts presents its 2015 International Play Festival this weekend, with the play NEVADA, a Cuban play by playwright Abel Gonzalez Melo. The opening night performance is on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Additional performances are on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for all ONU students.
