Polaris rings in Valentine's Day with literary readings

On Thursday, Feb. 12, Ohio Northern University's English majors gathered in the Elzay Art Gallery for the annual Polaris Valentine's Rapid Fire Reading. The reading was the second event in the department's spring reading series. 

Study abroad: Lessons not taught in the classroom

Study abroad programs offer unique cultural and academic experiences. Students travel to different countries to study at universities and live with students from that area.

During fall semester of 2014, Chelsie Cree, a senior music performance major specializing in voice, participated in the study abroad program in Manchester England. When asked about why she decided to go to Manchester she said, “…in a way it’s like going home. (...)The politeness of the culture has always been something as well.”

PR students are running a campaign to increase awareness on our nations increasing debt. The national pledge is called Up to Us. 

Lovejoy brothers, bus ride not enough to push wrestlers past Baldwin Wallace

Ohio Northern wrestling suffered an 18-12 loss at the hands of 13th-ranked Baldwin Wallace on the evening of Tuesday, February 10. In the loss, Colt Lovejoy defeated his fourth ranked opponent in his last four matches and Cody Lovejoy pushed his record to 37-0.

It's Up to Us, millennials

The U.S. national debt currently totals over $18 trillion. By 2022, the federal government will spend more on interest payments than it has spent on infrastructure, education, research and development combined. Social Security is projected to run permanent cash deficits totaling $2.8 trillion between now and 2033, when the trust fund will be depleted. These numbers all seem significant, but what are we doing as a country to change them?

WSO Valentine's Day event spreads the love

On February 10, International Student Services and the World Student Organization hosted a Valentine’s Day event titled “Love Makes the World Go Round.” For two hours in the Affinity Commons room, students both international and domestic shared in Valentine’s Day themed activities while learning about how countries around the world celebrate the holiday.

Tables were set up around the room with summaries of different countries’ traditions for Valentine’s Day, and activities were available for students to try and mirror those customs.

Environmental creative nonfiction author Janisse Ray visited Ohio Northern University's campus this week as part of the Council of Independent Colleges' (CIC) Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program. On Tuesday, Feb. 10, she presented a public reading, showcasing her work.

ONU hosted their annual Joe Banks Invitational indoor track meet. We get an inside look at the thoughts of athletes and coaches before, during and after the events. Both the ONU men's and women's teams finished first at the meet.

Guest Music Recital
