On a rainy Wednesday in late March, one of Ohio’s most salient decision makers marched through the halls and around the campus of Ohio Northern University. Hailing from the highest level of state law, she traveled from Columbus to the treacherously weathered village of Ada to talk to students about their futures.

Ohio Supreme Court justice Judith L. French visited ONU on March 28, posing as a guest speaker in communications courses and a judge in a Moot Court competition.

Around 11 a.m. on Monday, ONU head baseball coach Gene Stechschulte sat at his desk, hunched over a stat sheet. He was visibly drained — bags under his eyes, fatigue in his voice.

He and his team had returned to Ada less than 12 hours earlier, having completed a Sunday road sweep of Mount Union, who won the OAC last year. They would have to turn around and face another conference juggernaut, Baldwin Wallace, on Tuesday at home. The turnaround was quick and the Yellow Jackets would be well-rested, having not played since they trounced lowly Wilmington last Friday.

This spring, Northern Review sports editor Grant Pepper will be following the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team as they enter their third year of competition. After finishing seventh in the OAC in year one and fifth in year two, the Polar Bears are looking to contend for their first conference crown in 2018.

ONU won its first OAC game of the season last Friday, trouncing Mount Union, 10-2. They did so without their starting goalkeeper, however, as junior Alex Pizarro was sidelined with an injury. The Polar Bears sent backup Andrew Markell out for his first career start.
