Being on college campuses, like Ohio Northern’s, can give students a false sense of safety when being surrounded by their peers. Students don’t realize everything they can implement to keep safe and knowledgeable throughout their years on campus.

I’m going to share my top five tips on how to keep aware and safe on campus. While these are tips for Ohio Northern’s campus, they can be used anywhere at anytime.

#1 - Always lock you doors

Ada seasons have begun to change and so have student moods. Once the sun starts setting earlier and the workload gets heavier, students mental and physical health can start to deteriorate. That deterioration makes it hard to focus on the important things like school, friends and most of all sleep.

The holiday season is right around the corner and everyone on campus can almost hear the theater arts department practicing and rehearsing for The Holiday Spectacular.

With only 21 rehearsals in a short three-week time span, the students in this program are getting ready to showcase the 24-year running show to the Ada community November 15th through 17th.

Taylor Daniel is a junior at Ohio Northern University from Columbia City, Indiana. She majors in art education with a concentration in pre-art therapy. Daniel’s interest in art has stemmed from a lifetime of creative expression starting when she was a child.

Daniel recalls being a little kid and always doing something artistic. Whether it was coloring, drawing or painting she was always doing something creative. Her parents and teachers were always supporting her love of art by pushing her to pursue her creative passions.

For the last 40 years the Black Rose Rugby team has been a part of Ohio Northern athletics. This club sport is comprised of approximately fourteen men who compete nine months out of the year. These athletes practice four times a week and work in the off seasons to better their skills and the program as a whole.

The team prides itself on being an accepting and an equal opportunity club. President and Coach of the team, Dylan Myers, hopes to make that message known to students.

ONU theatre department throws a "Wild Party"

Most play goers were likely taken aback last weekend to find that “The Wild Party” had already begun, even before they’d found their seats. Audience members were led into the theater by scantily clad partiers with no sense of personal space, letting everyone know right off the bat what experience they were in for. And The Wild Party was just that-an experience.

Why I chase after diversity

Elle Woods abandoned her platinum sorority life to go "Legally Blonde," ultimately finding straight As and self-worth instead of a husband. The girls in "Pitch Perfect" banded together to overthrow the reigning champs of a semi-popular a capella competition in a chase for redemption. Even an unenrolled janitor in "Good Will Hunting" discovered his self-taught genius while mopping the floors of a foot-marked university hallway.

Women’s chorus is a perfect opportunity for students for all majors to participate in an  outlet that allows them to follow their musical passion.

Women’s chorus held their fall concert in Presser’s recital hall on November 2nd. This chorus is directed by Dr. Christopher Larsen and is comprised of 24 singers. This concert was shorter in nature because the Men’s Chorus did not perform.

Ohio Northern University is like a second home for every student who attends the university.

Ohio Northern is just that kind of place. The university makes its students feel as if they have the support of their family and closest friends all year round. There is a closeness and a connection between students and their professors that cannot be rivaled by any other university.
