“How do I love thee, let me count the ways,” poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning once wrote.

Valentine’s Day is a time when people express their love for each other through song, writing, videos, cards, or chocolate. This special day began early, Feb. 12, for Ohio Northern University’s English Department with the annual Polaris Valentine’s Rapid Fire Reading.

This was the second event in the department’s spring reading series.

English majors gathered in the Elzay Art Gallery to listen to poetry, short stories, and song lyrics expressing a mixture of emotions. There was even an excerpt from an audio podcast.

Readers included Lucas Campbell, Jessica Cogar, Rachel Cruea, Joey Ferraro, Ivy Keller, Alice Kim, Amelia Leff, Kelley Lewis, Kasy Long, Assistant Professor of English Jennifer Moore, Erika Mortimer, Professor of English Lisa Robeson, and Kelsi Rupersburg.

Polaris is Ohio Northern University’s undergraduate literary magazine, featuring fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual arts. The magazine’s 2014-2015 edition is scheduled for release in April.
