Ohio Northern University’s Department of English concluded its 2015 Spring Reading Series on April 16 in the Elzay Gallery of Art with visiting poet Anthony Madrid. Creative writing students Rachel Cruea and Elizabeth Wildenhaus Horn contributed to the reading with their own selection of works.

Madrid, a Chicago native, has published poems in “Best American Poetry 2013,” “Boston Review,” “Fence,” “Lana Turner,” “LIT,” and “Poetry.” His first book is called “I Am Your Slave Now Do What I Say,” in which he read excerpts from during this Thursday’s reading.

Madrid has written in forms including ghazal poetry and rhyming quatrain, bringing a contemporary, associative, and surreal feeling to the received forms.

ONU’s Department of English brings visiting writers to campus each semester in order for students to have a special opportunity to meet with professional, working writers.
