Women with beards and men in heels took over the McIntosh Ballroom at A Rubi Affair on Saturday, Feb. 22. The drag show, an annual event hosted by Open Doors, is the organization's primary fundraiser with all proceeds typically benefitting the AIDS Resource Center of Lima. A portion of this year's proceeds will also be donated to the family of Tim McMullen. A Rubi Affair raised over $600 between performance entrance fees and audience donations.

The event has two main attractions: The Rubi Girls and performances by student groups. The Rubi Girls are a group of professional drag queens from Dayton, OH, who have raised over  $1,000,000 for HIV/AIDS and gay-related causes since the late 1980's. Nine student groups performed in this year's A Rubi Affair including Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Zeta, Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Theta Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Tau Delta, Theta Alpha Phi and Open Doors.

Lance Alley, Open Doors' vice president and A Rubi Affair organizer, said, "We were amazed at the level of student support this year. This is the most successful A Rubi Affair we've had since I became a student at Ohio Northern, and we can't wait to see how it grows in the future."

Performances were judged in two categories, judges' favorite and audience favorite. James Scofield and Joshua Heard the judges' favorite, while Kappa Alpha Theta took home the audience favorite award and raised over $200 themselves. Guest judges included Lance Alley, Dr. Lisa Robeson of the English Department and Kyle Sackinger from PFLAG Lima.

Open Doors T-shirts and raffle tickets for gift cards from area businesses were also sold at the event. T-shirts are still available for $15.
