ONU Wind Orchestra presents "Music of Spain and New Spain"

On Thursday, Feb. 27, Ohio Northern University’s Music Department will be presenting their winter wind orchestra concert for everyone interested in hearing beautiful music by talented music students. Starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Biggs Theater inside the university’s Freed Center, the concert will feature pieces of Spanish flare.

The concert is titled "Music of Spain and New Spain." Under the direction of Dr. Thomas A. Hunt, students will perform popular Spanish music. The event also hosts a guest conductor, Sascha Leufgen. Leufgen is an acclaimed conductor of the Harmony Municipale in Dudelange, Luxembourg.

Students are very excited to play with a guest conductor.

Also, students will have the pleasure of hearing music by a guest saxophone soloist, Monika Leufgen. Leufgen is also a visiting soloist from Germany.

Having guest conductors and soloists allow Ohio Northern students and audience members an opportunity to experience different cultures through something that everyone can enjoy: music. Music is the international language, and having the ability to bring a conductor and a soloist from Germany is an amazing experience for young musicians like the students at Ohio Northern.

In addition to the music, the Ohio Northern Dance Company will dance in the show, bringing more life into the show with representations of the traditional Spanish dance numbers. The company is choreographed under Liz Cozad.
