Letter to the Editor from March 20, 2014

Dear Campus Community,

Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2014 Winter Career and Graduate School Fair such a success.  Held in the Field House on February 26, 2014, organizations were present to meet ONU students for the purpose of hiring full-part time positions, internships/co-ops and for admission to graduate and professional schools.  Targeted areas were Arts & Sciences, Business Administration and Engineering.

Here is a recap of the event:

111 organizations attended (34% increase over last year!)

221 recruiters attended

195 students attended

93 interviews were conducted

68 students interviewed

16 organizations stayed to interview selected candidates (many others prefer to bring interviewees to their organization, conduct phone interviews first, or schedule a day on campus to conduct interviews after reviewing resumes). Many recruiters commented on how impressed they were with our students - the professionalism, maturity, preparedness.

Here are some comments that were emailed to Polar Careers after the event:

"I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to participate at the ONU Career Fair yesterday.  The Xanitos Table had a great turn out.  The students were very well-dressed and informed.  I was very impressed by everyone I met.  Thank you too for the lovely accommodations at the Inn Hotel on Campus and the hospitality at the Career Fair.  Well done!"

"On behalf of GSW; I want to thank you and the Ohio Northern University Polar Careers staff for running and administrating the Career and Graduate/Professional School Fair.  Not only was this a great event, but we had the chance to meet and connect with some of ONU's brightest students. We love the education, experience and insight that your Pharmaceutical Business students are receiving. It was a pleasure to be a part of this event and we look forward to attending the Pharmacy Career Fair on October 1, 2014. Thank you once again."

There are many to thank for their contribution to this event.

Thanks to Dean Paul and Mike Schmitz for lending their football players to greet and assist recruiters and a very special thanks to these young men.  On a bitterly cold morning these men impressed recruiters, many  of whom had never been on our campus before, with their polite and cheerful demeanor and willingness to help carry recruiters' materials inside.

Thanks to faculty who came by to talk with recruiters.  The recruiters value this. Thanks also for encouraging students to attend and all the academic preparation that goes into making our students such great candidates.

As always, Polar Careers appreciates the assistance of Catering, under the direction of Eva Fensler, for what recruiters proclaim to be the best career fair lunch!

Thanks to Physical Plant for their contribution in making the Field House an organized venue for recruiter displays.

Thanks to everyone in the King Horn Sports Center for being so accommodating. Thanks to Klondike, who has a recruiter fan base!

Thanks to the Polar Career Assistants and other campus volunteers who worked tirelessly before and during the event.

Most importantly, thanks to our students who took the time to be prepared and to dress professionally and represent themselves and ONU so splendidly to these recruiters.  We are proud of you.
