Housing Lottery Tips

The 2014-2015 Ohio Northern Housing Lottery is right around the corner. In order to be eligible to participate in the ONU Housing Lottery, students must complete a housing agreement and emergency contact information online through the MyHousing area of Self Service Banner.

Students who plan to participate in the Housing Lottery are required to select a roommate through MyHousing by midnight on Sunday, March 23. After selecting a roommate, students' assigned Housing Lottery time slot will be available for viewing in Self Service Banner and MyHousing, in addition to receiving an email. Housing Lottery times are determined by credit hours. The Housing Lottery will be open from March 26 through March 28.

According to the Office of Residence Life, all ONU students are required to live on campus for three years or six semesters in the residence halls or apartments unless they are at least 23 years old, have already acquired an undergraduate degree, have served in the armed forces, are married or reside with a parent, grandparent or sibling and live within 30 miles of campus. In order to be approved for off-campus housing, students must have attended one of three Good Neighbor meetings held earlier this semester.

While the logistics of successfully navigating the ONU Housing Lottery are important, sophomore Resident Assistant Tracy Bunger knows that selecting your future roommate has an impact on your time at college as well. "It is important to pick not only someone who you have things in common with, but someone who can understand the importance of school. For freshmen, the roommate you are paired with can really make or break your experience at college. This will be the person who helps shape your personality and future career during your time at ONU."
