This semester, one Ohio Northern athlete each week will be featured as the Northern Review ‘Athlete of the Week.’ Sports editor Grant Pepper will talk to each athlete briefly about what they do in their sport as well as in the classroom, and the videos will be posted here and on the Northern Review’s Twitter page: @NorthernOnLine.

This week, Brandon Waugh was selected as the Northern Review ‘Athlete of the Week.’ Waugh is a freshman point guard on the men’s basketball team who has appeared in all 22 games this season and has started in eight.

Waugh has emerged as pivotal piece to Ohio Northern’s success this season, as he leads the team in steals (1.6 per game) and has averaged 7.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this year. The Polar Bears are currently tied for second place in the OAC with three regular season games remaining, and they are just one game back from first place.

In high school, Waugh played for Columbus Northland, a storied program that has produced basketball alumni such as Trey Burke and Jared Sullinger. Waugh talked about his favorite high school basketball memories, transitioning from high school to college basketball, and what ONU will have to do to beat 24th-ranked John Carroll on Saturday afternoon:
