Ohio Northern University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter was once again awarded the Star Chapter Award at the 2018 PRSSA National Conference in Austin, Texas on Oct.6.

The Star Chapter award recognizes all chapters in good standing and rewards them for achieving goals such as programming and relationship building. This award has become the gold standard for chapters trying to achieve excellence. Ohio Northern’s PRSSA has achieved this award for the last 10 consecutive years.

Ohio Northern University’s PRSSA has allowed students to grow in relationship building through weekly networking events at their meetings with professionals and alumni in the public relations profession. ONU PRSSA also has programs such as resume building nights and case studies to help grow members’ public relations skills .

Eleven of Ohio Northern’s students were able to attend National Conference over the first week of October. Students were given the chance to network and grow their knowledge throughout the four-day conference.

Seniors and other active members at Ohio Northern University are given the chance to apply for multiple awards that the other 10,000 members of the organization are able to apply for and compete to earn. Receiving individual awards is an incredible honor among the community and shows dedication to the field.

Seniors McKenzie Wilson and Shannon Jack were both recipients of national awards through the PRSSA organization. Wilson and Jack both received The Gold Key Award, which is given to those who excel is their public relations education and serve as leaders.

The two seniors were proud of their awards and what PRSSA has allowed them to accomplish.

“Since I am graduating a semester early, the Gold Key Award feels like an icing on the cake of my time here at ONU and in PRSSA,” Wilson said. “It represents the effort and time I have put into the organization of PRSSA and our student-run firm, True North PR. But more than that, it represents the fantastic role models and teachers I have been surrounded with here at ONU.”

Jack also received the National President’s Citation which recognizes a student who has left a lasting mark on their chapter and society through work they have done.

I am honored and thankful to be recognized among such a strong group of professionals”
