What is Happening Around Us?

World Map

It is time to catch up on what is going on in the world around us! Just because we may not see things happen directly does not mean there are no important events going on this week. For example, you may have missed events in places such as Australia, Sweden and Antarctica. All you have to do is read!

Following the steps of Instagram, Facebook in Australia is running a trial based on hiding the amount of likes on a users post. By doing this, Facebook is attempting to decrease the social pressure that comes with social media use. The goal is for users to focus on the quality of the content rather than the numbers.

Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old environmental activist of Sweden, took a big step and called out many world leaders for their failure to do more in regards to climate change policies. Since then, children around the world have joined Greta and her campaign and are inspired to take a stand for their future.

The biggest iceberg in over 50 years has just broken off in Antarctica, estimating to be about 315 billion tons. But, researchers have stressed that this event has no relation to climate change and they have actually been expecting it to happen.
