ONU celebrates 20 years of dance

Ohio Northern University is celebrating 20 Years of Dance on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Biggs Theatre. Current students and alumni are working together to perform, choreograph and design a show dedicated to celebrating tradition and honoring the journey of Ohio Northern University students from freshmen to professionals.

According to Nicole Giangola, sophomore international theatre production major and stage manager for the dance show, "It’s exciting to be stage managing such an important event like the 20 Years of Dance. It’s amazing to be able to work with such a large group of talented students as well as the alumni that came before them" Giangola will be assisted by Allison Becker.

Alumni performers, choreographers and designers include Melissa Allen, Lauren Betz, Jennifer Burch, Jacob Lemmenes, Stephen McIntosh, Lia Meehan, Shannon (Odenweller) Mitchell, Elizabeth (Orley) Opperman, Janet Schroeder, Kerry (McKee) Stedke, Katrina Thompson, Hillary Turner, Susan Warrington and Melissa Widman.

Student light designers Jacob Novak and Christopher Ellinger will be working with alumni Christopher Sprague and faculty Kathleen DeVault to design a total of nine pieces. Paula Unrau and Lauren Walker will design costumes.

Junior musical theatre and public relations double major Brady Miller understands the opportunity he has to learn and grow during the dance show. "Working and dancing alongside alumni, all of whom are doing great things now, makes me see that there is life past Ohio Northern and that I can be successful when I graduate."
