Despite record, ONU's NCAA Tournament hopes hang in the balance this week

With a thrilling double-overtime win at Marietta on Saturday, the 24th-ranked ONU women’s basketball team clinched their fourth straight OAC regular season championship. Now, they must pivot quickly to the OAC Tournament, which will likely pose as a ‘must-win’ situation for the Polar Bears.

Despite their 21-4 overall record, national ranking and regular season conference title, Ohio Northern will likely need to win the OAC Tournament this week -- or at least make it to the championship game -- to qualify for their third straight NCAA Tournament.

She will be joined by her 800-meter counterpart on the men’s track & field team, Matt Molinaro, who finished second and third in last year’s indoor and outdoor national championship 800-meter races, respectively.

With six regular season OAC games left on the schedule, the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team is right in the thick of things in the conference title race.

John Carroll and Marietta are both 9-3 in the OAC, while Ohio Northern and Baldwin Wallace are both 8-4. Each team has six regular season OAC games left.

Dean McNeil quit soccer, and that's alright

Dean McNeil’s hair is much longer now.

Dark brown tufts poke out of his pink The 1975 hat -- “does this one work? I can wear an ONU one if you want,” he asks me before we take the portrait photo for this story. “That one’s just fine,” I say -- and he now has a shadowy beard that he strokes when he likes.

When he likes.

That’s the thing. Dean McNeil does what he likes now.
