Pharmacy research group takes a non-medicine approach for treatment

Around the world, dementia is one of the greatest contributors to disability in elderly patients. Working with these patients can prove challenging due to the psychological changes as the condition progresses. Non-pharmacological and behavioral treatments are promoted as a first line treatment in slowing down the progression of the symptoms of dementia, especially with Alzheimer’s Dementia.

One group on campus, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), happens to be studying non-pharmacological treatment for Alzheimer’s, specifically music therapy.

Fencing Club gives sporting opportunities to students

Ohio Northern has a great variety of opportunities for students to participate in various sports. Ranging from basketball and soccer to Lacrosse, there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. One of the great sports opportunities here is the Fencing club.

Fencing is a sport based on sword fighting with various different types of swords. There are three disciplines in modern fencing which are the foil, the épée, and the sabre.

Squirrel-rabbit hybrid species found at Ohio Northern

A new species of squirrel has been found at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The squirrel, affectionately known as the “squabbit” by students and staff, has been spotted around campus a few times. It is believed that there are two squabbits, one gray squabbit and one black squabbit.

Counseling Center Director stepping down

The Counseling Center has become a great resource for many students at Ohio Northern University. They provide a wide variety of services from treating anxiety and depression to defeating addictions.

Dr. Michael Schafer, who has been the practicing psychologist as well as the director at the Center for the past 12 years, is stepping down from the position effective Dec. 31. He will continue to practice psychology at Professional Psychological Associates  in Lima, Ohio.
