Football's AFC mid-season report

Oct 09, 2013 - Comments: 0

We are just past the quarter mark of the NFL season and already we have seen some surprising twists and turns. What is not surprising is the fact that the Denver Broncos look very good. Peyton Manning has such a great presence and command of the offense. What is surprising is the fact that the Denver Broncos have scored so many points at such a staggering pace that they usually have to "call off the dogs" early in the second half (much to my chagrin because Manning is my fantasy quarterback).

The eternal flame of the football coaching hot seat

Between division one college football and the National Football League, there are nearly 200 coaching positions, with many of those coaches on the hot seat each week, dependant on whether or not their team produces points and ultimately wins. This year is no different. Some notable coaching vacancies and soon-to-be vacancies include USC, Texas, and the Philadelphis Eagles. These may not be open positions, but these have surely taken some heat over the last month and especially since the start of their respective seasons.

The unbelievably bad Cleveland Browns

On Sept. 18th the Cleveland Browns once again made a move that caused fans to scratch their heads. Owner Jimmy Haslam approved a trade to send their 2012 third overall draft pick, running back Trent Richardson, to the Indianapolis Colts. In return the Browns received a first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. This is just another head-scratcher in a long line of questionable moves made by the Cleveland Browns organization since their return to the NFL in 1999.

2013-2014 NFL Preview

Finally, the NFL season has kicked off, and all is right in the world. There are plenty of rookies poised to make an impact (Eric Reid, DeAndre Hopkins, EJ Manuel) and fresh faces in different places (Percy Harvin, Anquan Boldin, Darrelle Revis). My job is to inform you about who will be hot and who will not. Beginning with arguably the toughest division in football, the NFC West; I believe the 49ers are still the best team in the division and possibly all of football, but the Seahawks are nipping at their heels.
