However, these types of projects are not easy, because the stories in the Bible are often brief, uneven or inconsistent. In other words, they do not serve well as modern screenplays. This may be one reason that many Bible-based movies do not receive good reviews, and those that do well often differ significantly from the original story.

"Captain America" offers political commentary

The movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is an action epic based on a famous comic book character. With the name Captain America, the main character obviously represents patriotic ideals. However, as the movie shows, the meaning of patriotism and the ideas of "good" and "evil" are not simple nowadays. In fact, viewers of this film get a heavy dose of action and drama along with some important themes about national security and freedom that will stick with them long after the movie is over.

The crisis in Ukraine has grabbed the world’s attention lately as Russia moved its troops into Crimea to annex that peninsula into the Russian Federation. Although the crisis has been in the headlines since February, it actually started long before. 

Ukraine was a part of the USSR until August of 1991, when Ukrainians voted to declare independence. 

The politics of the country have been divided between the pro-Russian politican Viktor Yanukovych and the pro-Western politicians Viktor Yushchenko and Yulia Tymoshenko. 

Sochi problems reveal larger issues

Before the 2014 Winter Olympics, most people had probably never heard of Sochi. Of course, now it is becoming a household name as reporters from around the world descend on this Russian resort city. 

Unfortunately, not all of the attention is positive.

As a developing country in the post-Soviet era, Russia has surely hoped to make a good impression on the world as it hosts the Olympics. But Western journalists have seemed mostly to notice the many flaws of Sochi.
