More themed living gets out of hand

For those of you who live under a rock you may not have noticed that there is a new housing option for ONU students named FLARE. FLARE is advertised as a new living learning community focused on exercising and healthy living - with my strict diet of Oreos and exercise goals of stretching for the remote, I was instantly ineligible. However, this new trend that our school is displaying is certainly interesting to me.

Ada in need of more businesses

Walking down Main St. of Ada, one of the first things I notice is the number of empty storefronts.  Sadly, some businesses have a difficult time becoming established in downtown Ada.  This is not a unique phenomenon.  Across America, Main Streets are dying.  

Surviving the housing lottery

It’s essentially the same feeling as showing up to an exam and realizing that you have no idea how to answer the first question. Your stomach drops, your cheeks flush, you feel all warm and sickly and you just want to run to the bathroom. Nothing puts a strain on your stomach quite like the housing lottery.  

Validating the value of volunteering

Why do we volunteer? As a student at Ohio Northern, I've asked this many times. ONU is very good at connecting with the surrounding community and volunteering as much as possible in that community, but this makes me question its value for the communities being served and for myself. What good does volunteering actually do?

Here is my background in volunteering: A lot of it hasn't been official, but I still volunteered, nonetheless. My parents have always loved helping people. I remember doing countless projects with my dad for others.
