Polaris represents ONU at the annual AWP conference in Tampa, FL

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs, also known as AWP, welcomes writers from all across the country for a week of networking, keynote speakers and opportunities for individuals to share their passion for writing every year. While college students were on Spring Break in March, Ohio Northern University’s undergraduate creative writing journal, Polaris, sent its editors and advisor to the annual AWP Conference in Tampa, Florida. From March 7-11, the Polaris staff were given the AWP experience, along with the chance to explore the city of Tampa. 

Fall Reading Recommendations

It's the time of year for the English department's fall reading recommendations. The reading recommendations are what students and professors in the English department think are good books to read.  Whether the books are based around the season, or a book that they think would be interesting or fun, it's exciting to see what the professors suggest. Dr. Jennifer Pullen, a professor of creative writing, and Matthew Haase, a junior creative writing major, give their suggestions for books they think would be excellent reads for students.

ONU Students and Staff Celebrate Banned Books Week

Every year, classic and modern works of literature are challenged by individuals all across the United States. But what causes works of literature to be banned in certain places? On Sept. 25, Ohio Northern University’s English Honorary group, Sigma Tau Delta, and the staff at Heterick Library celebrated Banned Books Week with their annual Banned Books Reading event. Staff and students were able to read passages from select books that have been banned or challenged throughout the years.
